St'Itchen'ham Repair Cafe
Hole in your pocket? Tear in your favourite trousers? Bring your clothes mending pile for the next Ickenham Sewing Repair Cafe this Great Big Green Week, and do your bit to tackle the mountain of 'fast fashion' waste and rejuvenate your own clothes rather than replace them.
We'll teach you how to patch or darn your clothes and textiles, with the support of one of our volunteers. With their range of mending skills and sewing experience, we will find a solution or 2. Techniques include darning, Swiss darning, Sashiko, crochet, knitting, cotton and stretch fabrics, machine sewing, decorative embroidery, invisible and visible patching.
Bring up to 3 items that need mending. Our volunteers might only be able to advise on 1 or 2 items (depending on how many people turn up), but can guide you through the creative and addictive world of mending your own clothes.
There will be sewing machines available to use for suitable mends (timed slots may have to be applied if there's a high demand).
There will also be embroidery threads, cotton, material for patching, mending samples and books to inspire you.
Open to everyone
There's no need to book; just drop in.
Please note: We ask for a small donation for the session to cover costs of equipment and expenses.
This is a community event run in association with Ealing Repair Cafe.
